At SoFlo Machining, we take pride in the quality of the service we offer our clients. To ensure this quality never drops, we follow the strict guidelines that come with being both AS9100D and ISO 9001 certified. To understand the significance of this, it is important to know what an ISO 9001 certification is, how the certification is acquired and how it affects production.
What is an ISO 9001 Certification?
An ISO 9001 Certification is the international standard set out by The International Organization for Standardization for quality management systems. Quality management systems are the formal system set out by a company or organization that is used to document processes, procedures, and various responsibilities to ensure that the product and service meet both the customer and regulatory agency’s needs.
The International Organization for Standardization is tasked with developing, maintaining, and publishing all the standards for various industries across the world. The standards provide information and requirements on how to build, test, and create various management systems.
The Importance of This Certification
Being an international standard, an ISO 9001 certification allows a company to continually operate with a quality management system that is on par with both local and international competitors, and gives customers the peace of mind that they are receiving the best possible service or product.
This certification is so influential in modern industries, that when industries begin to look at creating their own industry standards, they use it as the basis of their own. This can be seen with the aerospace AS9100 standard, the ISO 13485 standard for medical devices, and the automotive industries AITF 16949 standards.
The Current ISO 9001 Standard
The standard needs to be updated so that quality management systems can continuously be improved as industries grow and change. The current standard was revised in October 2015 and is referred to as the ISO 9001:2015 standard, which replaced the previous ISO 9001:2008 standard. It is important to remember that achieving the requirements set out by any previous version will not grant you a certification, and only the requirements set out by the most current standard are valid for certification.
What Changed Between The 2008 and 2015 Standards?
A few of the changes introduced with ISO 9001:2015 included the introduction of new terminology that all certified organizations need to be familiar with. This terminology is required for the newly introduced emphasis on risk-based thinking in order to improve quality management systems.
The current standard also increased the requirements in terms of leadership and responsibility for the successful implementation of quality management systems, and in order to make applicability for services easier.
As respected leaders in the machining and manufacturing industry for over a decade, SoFlo Machining is proud to be an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer, with an emphasis on our quality management systems meeting and surpassing all current requirements.
